DWDean Epoxy Floors

Professional Epoxy Installation Process

Not all epoxy floors are installed the same. Proper preparation and system selection ensures long-term performance.

We use an engineered approach: mechanical preparation, specified system build and UV-stable topcoats so your floor performs for years, not just months.

Common Reasons Floors Fail

Shortcut installations skip critical steps. Here are typical causes of failure and how they affect your floor.

Acid wash preparation only

Acid etching alone does not open the concrete surface or remove laitance. Coatings bond to a weak layer and can delaminate under traffic or moisture.

No mechanical grinding

Without diamond grinding, the substrate remains sealed and uneven. Poor mechanical key leads to adhesion failure and premature wear.

Thin coatings

Single thin coats or underspecified systems lack build and durability. They wear through quickly and offer little protection to the slab.

No UV stable topcoat

Without a UV-stable topcoat, epoxy can yellow and chalk in sunlight. Colour and gloss fade, and the surface degrades over time.

Moisture issues

Unchecked moisture vapour or surface dampness causes blistering, adhesion loss and coating failure. Proper testing and mitigation are essential.

Poor broadcast technique

Inconsistent flake broadcast or wrong application order leads to patchy appearance, poor coverage and weak intercoat adhesion.

Our Professional Method

A step-by-step process that ensures adhesion, build and long-term performance.

1

Mechanical diamond grinding

Open the surface and remove laitance for a strong mechanical key.

2

Crack and substrate repairs

Stabilise cracks and repair spalling so the substrate is sound.

3

Primer coat

Penetrating primer for adhesion and moisture management.

4

Base coat

Build and colour base for the system.

5

Decorative broadcast or system build

Flakes, quartz or multiple coats as per the chosen system.

6

UV stable protective topcoat

Durable, UV-stable finish for long-term performance and appearance.
